The development plan is an ‘umbrella’ phrase which includes adopted Local Plans, Neighbourhood Plans and the London Plan.
We represent clients’ interests in all aspects of the development plan process. Development plan documents contain policies which control land use as well as identifying sites for future allocation (for commercial, community, institutional and housing developments).
We also work with clients to secure their interests by making representations on development plan documents. This may include the submission of site details in response to ‘call for sites’ issued by planning authorities to inform Housing and Employment Land Availability Assessments.
We also advise on the preparation of Strategic Environmental Assessments and Sustainability Appraisals in support of Development Plan documents.
We are experienced in working with Parish and Town Councils in the preparation of their Neighbourhood Plans and have guided approximately 20 neighbourhood plan groups throughout Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Hampshire. We also undertake neighbourhood planning duties on behalf of Local Authorities in addition to providing independent consultancy advice. We can assist at various stages in the process from inception, through plan preparation, examination, referendum and the making of the Neighbourhood Plan.
At the start of preparing a Neighbourhood Plan, it can seem like an extremely daunting project. We are happy to guide you through the process and assist you with developing a project plan that ensures all the milestones and required steps are completed. This an essential exercise which will not only identify key areas requiring action, but can also help with assessing the resources required throughout.
We can assist steering groups in effective community consultation, working together to provide a communication strategy and advise on consultation methods appropriate to your community.
We can offer a number of services including preparing evidence base documents such as character appraisals and Local Green Space assessments, offer ‘critical friend’ advice on content and policy writing, assisting with securing grant funding, undertaking Strategic Environmental Assessment, basic conditions compliance, independent health checks etc.
