Following the recent cabinet reshuffle and the appointment of Michael Gove MP to 'Secretary of State for Levelling Up' , The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will now become known as the 'Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities'.
A task force has been jointly established by Prime Minister Johnson and Michael Gove MP to drive 'a programme of tangible improvements in every part of the UK as we build back better from the pandemic, and deliver on the people's priorities.'
The Prime Minister is quoted to have said;
"This Government is committed to uniting and levelling up every part of the UK and I am determined that as we build back better from the pandemic we are geared up with the teams and expertise to deliver on that promise.
... to lead our efforts to raise living standards, spread opportunity, improve our public services and restore people's sense of pride in their communities."
With the changes mooted in the 'White Paper 'Planning for the Future' likely to be watered down, and further delayed due to another round of consultation, it will be interesting to see what this latest re shuffle, (and renaming!), will mean for planning and development in our area...
